A nationally representative study of U.S. women found that although 40% of women reported experiencing low sexual desire, decreased sexual arousal, and/or problems reaching orgasm, only 12% (of the women with issues) indicated that these issues were a source of personal distress (Shifren et al.,2008).
Were you surprised by these findings? Why or why not?
I would am very surprised by these findings. The fact that 40 percent of women in the United States experiencing low sexual desire itself is an alarming statistic. In addition, merely 12 percent of women facing lowered sexual arousal reported it to be a source of personal distress. This finding signifies the low importance women place on their own sexual well-being in their lives, denying themselves to recognise an important and vital source of pleasure. The finding makes me question the so-called progress we have made in gender equality, when such a large population of women disregard attending to their own sexual problems.
