Marriage isn't always the way it appears to be! Is it possible to be in love or married to one person and have a "side piece?" Would you prefer another term:
It is definitely possible to be married or in love, while simultaneously having a ‘side piece’. However, any interpersonal relationship in order to be fulfilling and long-lasting has to be built upon the foundation of honesty and trust. As long as both partners are not secretive about their outside affairs and are in agreement with it, I do not see any reason to question it. There are many individuals who opt for open relationships and open marriages while being in love with a single partner at the same time.
To me, the word ‘side piece’ is slightly derogatory as it reduces another human being to a mere object. Even though the nature of the relationship may not be agreeable to all, it is unfair to call someone a ‘side piece’ while the committed or the married individual receives no such term. Probably, the term ‘paramour’ or ‘lover’ is more acceptable to me.
