From fears about masturbation to fears of the feminization of male children spending too much time with mothers and women teachers, men and American culture showed a great deal of concern about masculinity and threats to it in the mid-nineteenth to early twentieth centuries.Do you think that there was a crisis of masculinity in this period? Why or why not?
No i don't think there was any crisis of masculinity in this period. The period between mid-ninetenth to early twentieth century witnessed the rise of many theorists and psychologists. Each one of them gave their unique theory about human behaviour and sex patterns. Some of these theories were accepted , but most of them were brushed away. With such an array of thoughts and beliefs , the American people had mixed notions about the masculinity. It was not that the period faced masculinity crisis , but the psychological behavior of the people and the activities in their society and surroundings made them feel so.
