Homework Answers

Answer #1

Social stratification can be explained by different perspectives like;

Functionalism; According to functionalism, different aspects of society exist as each serves a needed purpose.

Conflict theory; Conflict theorists based their work of Karl Marx. Marx believed social stratication resulted from people's relationship to production; people were divided due to the fact that they; either owned factories or worked in them

Symbolic interactionism; According to this view, the built-in system of social stratication helps in grouping people together. According to the Symbolic interactionists; people's appearance reflects their perceived social standing. Thus; housing, clothing, transportation, hairstyles, taste in accessories, and personal style all indicate social status.
