Among the advanced technologies used to study the brain's structure and functions, which one provides detailed three-dimensional images of the brain's structures and activities?
With the expansion of technology to various fields, especially medicine, the study of the different parts and functions of the brain has come a long way. There are various imaging techniques such as the PET scan, CT, EEG, MEG, etc.
One of the most advanced techniques is the Functional magnetic resonance imaging, or fMRI and it measures brain activity.
How does it work,?
It works according to the principle that when an area of the brain is in use it consumes more oxygen and therefore there is increased blood flow. This change in blood oxygen levels is detected by the fMRI, in the form of activation maps and shows which parts of the brain are activated by different activities.
