How important is metamemory (metacognition about memory)? Is this a useful topic for college students to understand? If you had to describe metamemory to a college student in order to help him/her understand his/her own memory processes, on what would you focus? Metamemory is a type of metacognition, where a a person is able to examine and analyze their own memories. Metamemories are very useful for college students as it can help them in educational purposes. The college student could be taught how to be aware of their own learning and memory. This helps to observe various concepts and the processes which are responsible in learning and remembering concepts. Memory techniques such as mnemonics and mind maps facilitate students to memorize study material. Organizing study material through graphical representations, conceptual understand and linking it with practical situation will also help student learn better and understand their memory better.
