Define a relational transgression and provide some examples of specific types of transgressions.

Relational transgressions are when people would be violating the rules of a relation either in an implicit or an explicit manner. Transgressions tend to include a number of behaviours.

explain the four categories of transgressions.

The four categories of transgressions include:

  • Distance: when there is psychological separation between the two partners, as well as physical separation, and the physical separation is way more than what is required.
  • Lack of commitment: when a person shows dishonesty or fails to the required obligations or is unfaithful.
  • Disrespect: when a person is disrespting the other person, especially in front other third party people.
  • Aggression: when the partners are engaging in physical violence or in verbal hostility.

Why do you think people enact transgressions and what might be done to reduce transgressions in a relationship?

There are a number of reasons such as:

- dissatisfaction in a relationship

- when there are passive inconsiderate behaviours

- when a person may get interested in a third person and not the partner.
