According to disengagement theory older age adults are tends to isolated from society and personal relationship due to their ageing. This theory was given in 1961 by Elaine Cumming & Warren Earl Henry.

On the other hand ,according to activity theory when older age adults remain active and stay connected with society. These meaningful activities replaced their activities or roles after retirement. Hence, this theory propose a more balanced and happier relationship between life satisfaction and activities. This theory was given in 1961 by Mr. Robert J. Havighurst.
