What is the importance of reggae for Rastas?
The Rastas follow an Afrocentric culture. The Caribbean region was majorly Christian but the Rastafarians who believed in life after death considered Africa as their heaven. When the Rastafarians refused to pay taxes to the British, they were tortured and forced to leave the Caribbean. The Rastas consider prophet Haile Selassie as the reincarnation of God. Due to this belief, they wish to relocate to Africa which according to them, is the Promised land of Zion under the leadership of figures like Marcus Garvey. They believe that the people return to Africa after death in a spiritual form or by getting reincarnated. Hence, their move to Ethiopia is a return to home in Africa.
Rastas are associated with reggae music which is considered as their identity. They play drums in the religious groundation ceremonies. Bob Marley is considered the most popular reggae musician of all times
