Answer #1

People who experience trauma, may often have distorted memories of their trauma. This trauma may involve physical, sexual abuse or psychological abuse. Memory loss due to abuse is common, people cannot recall their traumas which they experienced, this is known as dissociative amnesia. Dissociative amnesia involves the inability to remember information which may be due to psychological causes.

Other Studies have shown that people may have an exaggerated sense of their traumatic memory. They tend to remember to have experienced more trauma then they actually had experienced. This may be due to post processing of the memory, the person may have added more memories to the traumatic memories.
