Kalief Browder was an African American who was arrested at the age of 16 without trial. Two years after his solitary confinement, he killed himself. Taking from a psychological point of view, Browder was an adolescent when he was arrested. The stage of adolescence is considered to be one of the most crucial phases in an individual life. It is a phase where the person tries to build an identity for themselves. As such, being labelled as a criminal may have caused a mental trauma for Browder. Also, since there was no one to address the issues faced by him, it would have been very difficult for him to cope with the trauma.
