Homework Answers

Answer #1

Manifest functions are the recognized and intended consequences observed by people or expected in any social institution. The manifest function of religion in any society is to provide meaning and purpose to life. People are united due to shared symbols, norms and values of life due to religion. Social control is prompted in society by religion as people are made to follow; God’s rule to be rewarded in the life of the hereafter.

Latent functions are the unrecognized and unintended consequences of religion like we become part of a bigger family for example as Christians we all exchange gift of Christmas.
