Puberty occurs between ages eleven to sixteen in boys, and between ages ten to fifteen in girls. Before the onset of puberty, there is a stage, which is called pubescence. Pubescence precedes puberty by about two years. During this time, there is acceleration in growth. Height is drastically increased in children and weight is also increased. Sexual organs start to mature; in boys, the testes, and in girls, the ovaries.
Nocturnal emissions are seen in boys, where they may have wet dreams or ejaculations. In girls, menarche is the onset of menstrual period. Secondary sex characteristics are developed, these are the characteristics which are not directly linked with the sex organs. Boys get facial hair and deep voices, girls get breasts and wider hips.
