Discuss the impact of McCulloch v. Maryland on American Federalism. How has this landmark Supreme Court case helped to define the relationship between the national and state government?

McCulloch v. Maryland case took place in 1819. It is one of the first and most important Supreme Court cases on federal power. In this case, the Supreme Court held that Congress has implied powers derived from those listed in Article I, Section 8. The “Necessary and Proper” Clause gave Congress the power to establish a national bank.

This case is very important to American federalism because of the implications that came with its establishment of the "elastic clause" in the constitution of United States. It also allows for decisions in state judicial system to be capable of reviewing by the supreme court, which is the federal body of the judiciary.
