Titchener focused on the elements of consciousness. According to him, the three elementary states of consciousness are sensations, images and effective states. Sensations are the basic elements of perception, images are elements of ideas not present at the moment and effective states means elements of emotion.
Criticism: Titchener's methods are subjective reports of the elements of consciousness. A deaf or blind indiviual would not be able to relate to these elementary states.
