Erikson posits that in early adulthood our psychosocial task is to sort out the state of intimacy versus the state of isolation.
Are these two states the only choices for this stage of life? Is
that all we have going on?
Are there other models of this stage of development in other
cultures?
How does socio-economic status influence people in early
adulthood?
Intimacy and isolation are of course important aspects of early adulthood, but they are not the only ones. Early adulthood involves many other issues. This is the time to decide which courses to choose in college, tackling college life. Transitioning from college to work is a very challenging task, as young adult learn to be responsible for the first time and earn money and support themselves financially. This is also time when they leave home and have to make their own decision in life. Dealing with work and finding the right balance between work and family life is challenging. The transition from being single to getting married and to having kids also happens in this stage, which can add more responsibilities.
