Depression occurs because the emotions are not vented out at the correct time. It affects how we think and feels about any situation. Gradually it takes the form of a psychological disease. Depression presents different symptoms for different individuals. Hence, I feel the very first approach should be to try talk therapy.
If we discuss the problems that are troubling our mind to the extent that it takes the form of depression, it will help to analyze the situation better. Discussion with parents or friends or counseling sessions with the doctor whom we trust will help us to overcome our emotions. Counseling helps to narrow down the cause of depression which can then be worked upon. Thus the psychotherapy by a mental health professional would prove to be quite effective in regaining our motivation and in treating depression.
