One form of discrimination that is being discussed in recent times is the difference of pay that men and women receive for performing the same type and amount of work.

Where: Whether it is in large organizations like Google or even Hollywood, it is constantly observed that women are significantly more underpaid than men.

Consequences: This act of discrimination supports the idea that a woman’s work is not as valuable or worthy as that of a man. It thereby contributes to the existing patriarchal pattern of thinking, diminishing the attempts being made to bring about more gender equality in our society.

Actions: One of the first steps for organizations and institutions is to recognise that paying less money to a woman is an act of discrimation, even though it might not be immediately apparent on the surface. This should be followed by policy changes that ensure equal pay for work.
