What is the most interesting field in psychology? Why is research so important to the field of psychology? Please choose one type of research and explain.
In my opinion, the most interesting field in psychology is social psychology. This is because I find it fascinating how human behaviour is affected by the impact of social forces, and how, in many instances, this behaviour is subject to high variability. It is also interesting to learn about processes and phenomenon that occur at the group level.
Research in psychology is critical for establishing the discipline as a science. For a long time, psychology had struggled to be recognised as a ‘science’ but due to its strong emphasis on empirical studies and robust research methodologies, it no longer faces that challenge.
Experimental research has formed the basis for establishing many theories today. This method seeks to sacralise a cause and effect relationship between two variables under conditions where the researcher has a high degree of control over all the variables in the study.
