Our body seeks a state of internal homeostasis or balance, which is disturbed when an internal or biological need arises.The body goes into a state of drive, where the motivation is to meet the biological need and bring back the body to a state of homeostasis.According to Hull, the needs are physiological in nature, while the drive to fulfill them is more psychological in natur. Together they cause a behaviour for reducing the drive. For example the physiological need for energy and nutrition from food becomes the hunger drive motivating us to find food and reduce the hunger, bringing back the body to a balanced state.
