There are several models of “talk therapy” or psychotherapy such as Cognutive Behavioural Therapy, Interpersinal Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy etc. that have shown efficacy in the treatment of a wide range of mental illnesses, regardless of whether medication is prescribed. These include mood disorders (such as depression and bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders (such as generalised anxiety disorder, phobias), eating disorders (such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa), and schizophrenia as well.
