Let’s discuss disabilities as being sorted into three groups: physical, emotional, and physiological.
choose one of these groups and profile a person (real or imagined) who has a disability from that group. Describe the disability. To which group(s) does it belong?
What are its effects on the person you are profiling? Explain some of the challenges that this person has to overcome to function in everyday society. Remember to respond to two of your classmates’ initial posts with your own opinions and ideas.
From the given list, I would like to discuss emotional disability
in depth. Emotional disabilities involve impairment in an
individual's ability to effectively recognize, interpret, control,
and express fundamental emotions. Let us take Jake as an example,
who has a diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder. He experiences
a general pervasive mood of anxiety regardless of the situation. He
has also developed physical symptoms such as stomach ulcers and
constant headaches as side effects of this mental illness. He tends
display inappropriate types of behavior or feelings under regular
circumstances because of his anxious preoccupations. As a result,
he finds it extremely challenging to build or maintain satisfactory
interpersonal relationships. He is also unable to learn or
concentrate on everyday tasks.
