Answer #1

In the story Voices, the author wants to show the tradition of the bygone age. It is the voice of the women to tell how they would spend time and how the time was. Munro wrote Voices as the feminist voice. She wants to portray the mundane routine life of the women in the light of her mother. It is against the patriarchal social setting. She wants to say the need of the feminine space in the society. Even the identity crisis of the women is a subject that led her to write Voices.

The story was written in the background of the Great Depression. It is the voices of the many women who are burdened with numerous social problems. She shows how women are forced to take the profession of prostitution during wartime.
