According to David Rosenhan and Martin Seligman, there are seven features of abnormal behaviour:

1. It leads to suffering and distress.

2. It is maladaptive in that it leads to the prevention of achieving major life goals.

3. It is unconventional and distinct from how people usually behave.

4. It is unpredictable and cannot be controlled.

5. It is irrational and it’s expression has no reasonable basis.

6. It causes discomfort to the observer.

7. It violates the moral and ideal standards of a particular society.
