Answer #1

Perhaps the most interesting yet significant finding I came across with respect to PTSD research is the impact of emotional trauma on brain structure and function. Researchers have found that traumatic stress, experienced in the case of PTSD, lead to lasting changes in the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex. Furthermore, patients with PTSD also show altered response to stress in terms of increased cortisol and norepinephrine responses.

Another interesting set of studies relating to the treatment of PTSD is the investigation of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy. A set of studies have shown that MDMA in conjunction with psychotherapy can help people overcome PTSD, and possibly other disorders as well. This is attributed to MDMA’s tendency to increase feelings of trust and compassion towards others, which could make an ideal adjunct to psychotherapy for PTSD.
