What are your thoughts on family separation at the border? What impact does social science research have on the immigration policy?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

I would regard family separation at the border as an unpardonable atrocity, a policy that unjustly and unrightfully impacts innocent children. The flows of migration as well as the motivation of immigrants are diverse and changing with time. For policy responses of any nation on these matters to be sound, and avoid controversies (such as the case of the family separation) a substantiated understanding of the phenomena is required. In this regard, social science research on immigration contributes to the evidence base on which such policies are developed.
