Discuss the distinction between inductive and deductive reasoning and give an example of each.
Inductive reasoning usually starts with some kind of observations and based on that we tend to make some generalizations. That is it's direction of movement is from observation to a patticular idea or theory. Eg: everytime you clean your room you start sneezing. This is a symptom of people who are allergic to dust. So you infer that you have dust allergy.
Deductive Reasoning is just the opposite. Here the direction of movement is from ideas to observations.Eg: All men will die one day. I am a man and I'll die one day. Deductive reasoning usually starts with a theory or idea.
