EFFECTIVENESS OF FOLLOWING STRATEGIES TO TEACH VOCABULARY:

Cognitive strategy -

• Visualising the newly learned vocabulary by mentally drawing the picture helps to remember the words and phrases better.
• Encouraging the students to paraphrase helps the learners to grasp the words faster.
• Letting the learners learn in groups promotes the cooperation among them.

Metacognitive strategy -

• It uses the Frayer vocabulary model which utilizes the concept map to learn vocabulary.
• Drawing the images to correlate with the meaning helps in a better comprehension.
• Memory aids like the mnemonic device are very effective to learn vocabulary by facilitating and enhancing the content of vocabulary.

Language learning strategies -

• It uses the vocabulary games, like bingo; charades, scamble, treasure hunt games which are filled with images and colorful texts. This improves the vocabulary by effective use of the photographic memory.
• It supplements the learners with various posters, illustrative maps, programs and applications with appropriates labels which can be remembered easily.
• The teacher talks to the learners with a rich and easy to interpret words.
• The most effective of these strategies is the SQR ( survey, question, read) hence I would utilize this technique of the language learning strategy. This is easy to use by the teachers as well as for the learners to comprehend and understand.
