Compare and contrast the basics of the American and French
Revolutions. Why does the text call one a rebellion not a
revolution?
In the American Revolution, the fight was against the Britishers, who then ruked America for freedom and independence. In this sense, it was more of a war of independence and revolt against the colonialists to permit the American population to govern itself. After the struggle, there was no radical change in the power structure of the state as power had been restored to the Americans. The French Revolution, on the other hand was about rebelling against tyranny, and social inequality, and it was inspired by Enlightenment thinkers. This can be considered a revolution because a monarchy was destroyed and replaced, eventually, by democracy, which was an entirely different form of government.
