Explain two major differences between common sense understandings and social psychological theories. Illustrate with an example. What is the danger in relying on common sense or intuition in learning about the relationship between the individual and his or her environment?
one of the major differences between common sense understandings as well as social psychogical theories, is that the understandings cannot be tested or cannot be re tested, whereas, psychological theories could be tested on a regular basis to prove its accuracy. Another difference is that social theories would be formed from various theories, whereas, common sense understandings do not have a scientific basis and are only passed down as word of mouth.
The danger of relying on common sense is that there are no evidences explaining the arguments put forward. Also, people would be trying to oversimplify common sense. This oversimplification can be misleading.
