Many people believe punishment should be painful, as in very uncomfortable circumstances while one is incarcerated or even physical punishment like whipping. Others believe that punishment is about time lost, not painful circumstances. What side are you on and why do you think yours is the right side to be on?

Answer #1

Incarceration are those that happen in correctional facilities (aka prisons). The reason why these facilties are called correctional is because they are supposed to be a form of learning as well as punishment for a certain criminal act/behavior - in order to affect a change in the said behavior of the individual.

Using whips and physical form of torture for those incarcerated is an extreme form of punishment and does not do anything for the individual in terms of affecting a positive change. Also, there is extensive variability in the nature of the crimes for which individuals are incarcerated. Punishing an individual for a relatively minor crime would have devious consequences for the state.

Research indicates that most people are uncomfortable giving negative performance feedback to others. One line of research indicates that we don't like to give negative feedback because we feel bad for the recipient, while another line of research suggests that we are afraid that they will become angry with us. Think about your experiences with negative feedback and respond to at least one of the items below. Discuss a time when you have been faced with the task of giving...

By most standards, many people believe that the cost of health care, even with insurance coverage, is beyond reasonable and extremely high. Many, however, cannot always quantify or qualify how much they think health care "should" cost. As a consumer of health care and based on your knowledge and any experiences in paying for care, discuss what you think should be included in the cost of care both for services and products and whether or not cost would affect your...

DIscussion : So I'm sure that many of us have been in a grocery store, mall, park or religious establishment where families are hanging out, when, you notice a child misbehaving. I'm sure that we also notice how the child's caregiver(s) react to the child's behavior. Some may ignore the child, some may hold their child, some walk the child out into a different environment, and some may even hit their child. For this post, I would like for us...

One objection to Pascal’s Wager involves many-gods. The idea here is that just like you could argue you should believe in the Christian God to hedge your bets, so, too, you could argue that you should believe in ancient gods such as Zeus or Thor to hedge your bets as well. What do you think of this objection, and do you think it shows that Pascal’s Wager is not plausible for people today?

There should be multiple levels of entering the field of nursing based on the way people learn. Some people are more hands on then others and wouldn't want to be in school that long. A BSN would be financially more difficult and take up too much time for some people. The entry level should be an ADN because it is beneficial to people who can't stay in school long and they should also have plans to get a BSN if...

thoughts and feedback on this? I do not believe that a lack of Skeuomorphism has kept windows 8 from being popular. Personally, I find the interface to just be far less convenient than others that makes it so less desirable. Plenty of other apps and games that use a lack of skeuomorphism such as Snapchat or Instagram are still incredibly popular without it. I find that sometimes skeuomorphism can be very annoying, as it feels at times belittling to the...

I believe that nurses and other workers in the medical field need to look professional and keep up their appearance. Your hair color should be kept to mostly natural colors but having a little personality show in your appearance is also important. I think the new policy should have been a little more relaxed and understanding to a persons appearance. My first impression if i saw a nurse with their thong sticking out, a lip ring, and a visible Molly...

Emotion remains the least understood area of psychology. Researchers continue to work very hard to figure it out. What is most understood is that we have basic and universal emotions. What is not fully understood is how we process these emotions. While a layperson easily assumes they determine themselves to be happy or sad and then feel the visceral response of that emotion, the majority of researchers believe that it goes the other way. The first thing we feel is...

When The Blair Witch Project came out, many people reported feeling sick while watching it. They were sick not because the movie was scary, but because of the way the camera moved. This movie incorporates a trope called "found footage", which attempts to make the movie more realistic by having a shaky camera (as an individual is filming the movie instead of a film studio). Other movies, like Chronicle, Cloverfield, or Paranormal Activity use similar methods. Based on what we've...
