provide an overview of Thomas Hobbes's law of social life

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Thomas Hobbes view on social life is succinctly described and explained in his social contract theory. The social contract theory states that individuals' moral and political obligations depend upon an agreement they make among themselves in order to form the society in which they live. Hobbes was of the view that human beings are, at their core, were selfish and brutish creatures who need to be regulated. Without any agreements or contracts with one another, it would be impossible for them to live harmoniously as a social unit. Therefore, Hobbes opined that the only true and correct form of government was the absolute monarchy.
