In “Justice by geography: Urban, suburban, and rural variations of juvenile justice administration,” Barry Field argues that the juvenile court should be abolished and replaced with an adult court that mitigates punishments for minors. Is this a step forward or a step back in time? Who would benefit from such a change? Who would oppose it?

Answer #1

In "Justice by geography: Urban, suburban, and rural variations of juvenile justice administration,” Barry Field emphasis a uniform court system for under adult court. He finds that urban courts are more stricter, more formal and more punitive than the suburban, and the rural courts because of the soci-demographic factors. So, inorder to tackle this problem due to geography he wants a change in the present juvenile justice system. The other difference that he finds in the different courts is that rural are tougher on female juveniles than the male juveniles, due to the patriarchal system that is much dominant in rural areas influencing the justice system. The juvenile offenders from urban areas and the juvenile female offenders from rural background would be benefitted from such change. The judicial system of rural areas and suburban areas would probably oppose it.
