How does "popular" music differ from "art" or "serious" music? Cite three examples of the differences.
Art music is written for pure joy and love and the expression of feeling or for experimentation with musical ideas, or both but Pop music exists first as a melody usually to a poem , with verses and choruses and especially the chorus is singable by "ordinary" people--those who are going to be listening to it on radio. The examples of differences are--
(1.) Popular music are easy to understand, catchy rythem, dance oriented and also easy to forget but Art music is different, not everyone will find it good, these may be of longer duration, odd musical instruments and it stayed in mind for some time.
(2.) Art music is primarily a literary tradition but Popular music is an oral tradition.
(3.) Art music is tied pretty explicitly to certain methods of first notating and then disseminating written music, but Popular music is tied explicitly to folk music.
