Provide an example of each of these two scales (ordinal and interval/ratio) that represent students’ performance in a statistics course.
There are four kind of measurement scales,
1- Nominal Scale
2- Ordinal Scale
3- Ratio Scale
4- Interval Scale
First two scales are used in simple statistics while rest of scales used in complicated calculations like central tendency measurement and standard deviation measurements.
For general categorization, like nomination, alphabetically classification or age classification, we use nominal or ordinal scales. The use of interval and ratio scale in statistics is to find relations between mean, median or mode and also find co-relations. The interval ration scale is also used in NPC (normal probability curve) and standard and quartile deviation.
