What do you believe are the most significant federal and APA sanctions for legal and/or ethical violations in the practice of psychology and psychological research? Why?
It is very important for a psychologists to maintain the guidelines. As they are not set rules for the therapist but they are also good from a practise point of view. I believe following are the significant legal sanctions:
i) Informal resolution of the act:In this if a psychologist believe that there may have been ethical voilation made by another psychologist, they would attempt to resolve it by bringing it to the attention of the individual. Informal resolutions accepted and does not voilates any confidentiality rights which are involved.
ii) Conflict between Ethics and Law regulations or other governing legal authorities - If psychologist's ethical responsibility conflict with the law or legal authorities, then psychologist can clarify his conflict, bring it into notice to respective committee, and can take necessary steps to resolve it.
I find both of the above mentioned rules or the guidelines very helpful for the psychologists as it escapes the legal way. In the first one psychologist can resolve the conflict in an informal way without bringing it to the court. And in the second one psychologist can defend himself as in why he has taken the necessary step. It is very important to listen to the side of the psychologists.
