The Colombian conflict (Spanish: Conflicto armado interno de Colombia) began in the mid-1960s and it is a low-intensity asymmetric war between the government of Colombia, paramilitary groups, crime syndicates and communist guerrillas such as the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), and the National Liberation.
The Colombian government and the FARC on 12 November 24 signed a revised peace deal, which the Colombian Congress approved on November 30. On 27 June 2017, FARC ceased to be an armed group, disarming itself and handing over its weapons to the United Nations.The FARC and other guerrilla movements claim to be fighting for the rights of the poor in Colombia to protect them from government violence and to provide social justice through communism. The Colombian government claims to be fighting for order and stability, and to protect the rights and interests of its citizens.
