An empirical journal article is different from review journal article .While an empirical journal article reports methods and findings of a original research study conducted by the researcher, the review journal article or "the literature review" discusses past research studies on a given topic. Another difference between the two article is that an empirical journal article is based on experience and observation rather than systematic logic, whereas the review article summarizes the progress or current state in some particular area, subject or topic.
In edited book the entire collection of chapters have a common topic. A chapter is not generally a first place a study is reported. The scientist is summarizing a body of research and explaining usually explains the theory behind it. Chapters are not pear reviewed as rigorously as empirical journal articles or review journal articles.
