In what ways did the Civil War and the Great Depression change the Constitution?
The end of the Civil War resulted in several Amendments to the
Constitution. These concered the abolishment of slavery, Equal
Protection of all individuals and a law prohibiting local
government from preventing certain individuals from voting.
Consequently, the XIII, XIV and XVth Amendments were
introduced.
During the Great Depression, Prohibition was ratified and enacted
as the XVIIIth Amendment, and then repealed by the XXIst Amendment.
This was done with the motive to the sale of prohibited alcoholic
beverages by an organized circle of mobs. When alcohol was made
legal again, the mobs went out of business.
