According to West and Zimmerman; doing gender involves the advancement of a new understanding of gender as a routine accomplishment embedded in everyday interaction". Essentially, West and Zimmerman argued that gender is something that is created by humans. As humans, we categorized and defined the various aspects of life. Thus when someone is not in favor of their gender role or does something that is not deemed "correct" for that gender this person is considered to have committed an act of social deviance. Females do gender by the way the dress up the socialization they have and the roles they play at home and work for example they may do more home chores than men and they may go more certain professions than men such as teaching.
