Identify and discuss 2 factors or variables which have been shown to influence how well a child responds to marital dissolution
The following two factors influence how a child responds to marital dissolution:
Age: Depending upon the age of the child, the
response to marital dissolution varies. The older the child, the
better he/she is to handle marital dissolution. If the child is a
pre-schooler or in the early stages of schooling, there is high
likelihood that the resists marital dissolution. This is mainly due
to the time, money and effort required in taking care of the
preschooler. But over time, the child copes with the concept of
marriage dissolution and responds well under co-parenting or even
single custody.
Needs: If the needs of the child are met and
custody setup satisfies the child's needs, then the child is more
accepting of marriage dissolution. Whereas, if a child's interests
are neglected and the child's needs are not taken care of, then
there is resistance to marriage dissolution.
