Schizophrenia is a chronic and disabling brain disorder. Positive symptoms refer to mental disturbances in the patient’s perception of reality that do not exist objectively. The positive symptoms of schizophrenia involve hallucinations, delusions, disorganized speech, and disorganized behavior. Negative symptoms refers to mental abilities which the patient has lost or abilities that the patient can no longer perform. Apathy, lack of emotion, poor social functioning are examples of negative symptoms.
