The state of consciousness has both positive and negative side to it. Having the state of consciousness help a person aware of the surroundings which will make him/her act accordingly. It also gives the ability to perceive the happenings around oneself, so that the person work towards maintaining homeostasis. The negative side of having consciousness is that sometimes we give a lot of importance to the surroundings and unnecessarily evaluate ourselves. This evaluation is most likely to go to the negative feelings of oneself. Also, some memories which can be disruptive to the human body keeps coming to the person because of consciousness.
