The Danbury Baptist Letters are the letters between Thomas Jefferson and the Danbury Baptist Church, Connecticut, during the year 1801. The Danbury Baptist Church Association wrote a letter to President Thomas Jefferson expressing their concern over the state Constitution's lack in clear definition of protection of religious liberty, and government's stand against establishments of religion. In reply to this letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptist Church aboia his firm beliefs in the values of federalism, assured that federal government would not favor any particular religious sect and that it would not interfere in the matters of the religious congregation. He affirmed the government has a uniform sentiment towards all religious sect.
