Grief experienced by older adults is affected by the following:

• Social role or the roles that the adults are involved in th society is one of the factors that helps the older adult in coping up. Though they experience grief, they tend cope up in better forms by being involved in various activities. The society helps them to cope up along with helping them to be busy.
• Physical fitness or physical health is another factor. This helps the cope up better. If a person is already faced with physical ailments, they would be depressed on their own, with lower coping abilities.
• As a result of older ages, many of the sons and daughters might abandon the parents, leading to an increase in depression. Depression sets in as a result of increased isolation and loneliness, thus affecting the person.

While working with older adults, their physical health, psychological health and social well being are important to asses.
