Psychotherapy for psychological disorders

What are the strengths of the following in the treatment of psychological disorders:

1.) Humanist therapy

2.) psychoanalytic therapy

What is the weakness of the behavioral therapy in the treatment of psychological disorders

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A primary advantage of the humanistic therapy is that rather than emphasizing behaviors or curing pathologies, it allows clients to lead a more authentic life, and accept themselves as they are. Furthermore, these therapies tend to be associated with being more client-centered. This approach gives clients agency in the therapy and tends to bring this sense of control in their life.

On the other hand, psychoanalytic therapy is recommended when clients seek to tap into their unconscious mind to recover repressed emotions and experiences. In this sense, clients are better able to get to the roots of their issues, rather than only focusing on their symptoms. Doing so enables them to work toward changing negative, destructive behaviors.
