The just-world hypothesis refers to the assumption that an individual’s actions are inclined to bring morally fair and fitting consequences to that individual. In other words, it is the belief that all noble actions will be eventually rewarded and all evil actions will be eventually punished. This hypothesis contributes to systemic injustice and victim blaming because it supports the idea that individuals receive what they deserve. If carried out too far, it can lead others to rationalize an inexplicable injustice by looking for things the victim might have done to deserve it. A classic example is when a women who has been sexually assaulted is blamed for her short clothes.
