Such parents rely on punishment to demand obedience or teach a lesson. An advantage of this type of parenting is that it will eventually shape the children to be a obedient and responsible citizens. However, this parenting restricts children’s capability to think liberally and act independently.

On the other hand. Mr. and Mrs. Mendoza appear to be practicing authoritative parenting. Such type of parents have high expectations of their children, but temper these expectations with understanding and support as well. Authoritative parenting creates the healthiest environment for a growing child, and helps to foster a productive relationship between parent and child.
