Read and consider the following definition of sociocentrism:
Sociocentrism: the assumption that one’s own social group is inherently and self-evidently superior to all others; social conventions, beliefs, taboos seen as “the only correct way to think and live” (Paul & Elder, 2008)
In the space provided below, explain how you can connect to this concept and provide a specific example.
Sociocentrism is an assumption that an individual's group is superior to all others. This concept has both pros and cons to it. The advantages of having that attitude are that a person will work hard to maintain the stature. Having a top stature is hard to maintain, therefore, the members of the group work hard towards it. Example: Person X believed that his team is better than others because they are in the top chart. This made person X work more effectively and also ensure that all his team members are maintaining a sound body. On the other hand, having a sociocentrism attitude will make the members of the group discriminate the other group members. For instance, a Hindu believing that his religion is the only true and superior religion. Therefore, he discriminates people from other religion and despises them whenever they are around.
