Infant mortality is considered to be a basic indicator of the well-being of a population.

This is measured by checking the death rate of infants within 1 year old out of 1000. It would bring out the economic and social status of the population while at the same time the resources available for them such as health care, quality food, water and living space. It would also bring out the families ability to take care of the children in terms of their economic capability and social make-up.
